Bugarach – a New ‘Mystery’ ?

by ‘SousLePic’

Thinking about the new 2012 the other day, and what it might hold for our ‘Cathar Country’, yet another News item about the ‘pre-Armageddon’ ‘invasion’ of the Bugarach area brought to mind something strange I’d noticed about the ‘upside down’ mountain some time ago - and filed away in a cerebral back drawer. But now, the rising tide of dire predictions about the premature termination of 2012 - on 21 December - have prompted me to re-open the drawer and (hoping that it’s not actually a Pandora’s Box!) let my ‘observation’ loose on an unsuspecting world...........

It all starts from a visit to the area last Spring to see the enigmatic Pech de Bugarach, which as an Ariège resident I’d often seen from afar, but never got round to actually visiting – it is after all a little remote. So on a bright day, numerous photos were taken – from road level, Mrs SLP and I weren’t equipped for mountaineering! – and we pondered on the various mysteries surrounding this enormous chunk of geologically up-ended limestone.

But the Bugarach geology and the Armageddon and other mysteries only came into closer focus later when I downloaded the photos onto my PC. Whilst zooming in on a shot of the northern aspect of ‘la Pic Grosse’, I accidentally rotated it through 90 degrees. And sat there spellbound by what emerged.

Now we all, I’m sure, sometimes see ‘images’ in other mundane objects – famous faces in halved tomatoes for example – but here I suddenly came ‘face to face’ with.............. But enough, perhaps you might also see what I unwittingly captured that Spring day. So first, look at the photo, below: the ‘north face’ of la Pic Grosse in all its splendour:

Do you see what I see?

And for those who can’t do the above................PiqueGrosseFace1

I’ll be very surprised if I’m the first to notice this ‘smiling’ feature, but maybe I am.....? A trick of the light that afternoon?      OR another aspect of the Bugarach mystery?

And if so, who is the ‘Giant’ who's 'face' features? A further item on this ‘mystery’ follows anon.

Meanwhile, ‘SousLePic’ leaves the current thought with you!
